This session helps you to understand the technologies that make generative AI possible. You will be introduced to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and generative AI. A community discussion that helps make artificial intelligence easy to understand with helpful demonstrations and recommendations for further study, free classes, reading material, and hands-on learning opportunities. No prior experience needed. All are welcome.

Sunday, February 18 West Seattle Branch, Seattle Public Library Address 2306 42nd Ave. SW Check in on arrival for your free ticket(s) 10 am doors open, 10:30 story time, then Buoy stays for meet-and-greet until 11:30 Story times with Seattle Public libraries are interactive learning opportunities. At story time, kids and their families can enjoy stories, songs, and fun learning activities. Registration is not required. Kids and families will also have the opportunity to meet Seattle Kraken Mascot Buoy! Buoy will be available for photo opportunities and fun. Buoy is the Seattle sea-troll who inhabits the caverns of Climate Pledge Arena and for who nothing beats a day filled with Kraken hockey and the team’s fans. Folks are drawn to Buoy’s many talents, high-energy, and fun-loving spirit. Odds are you’ll see the troll roaming out and about around the Pacific Northwest as well as hanging with the Fremont Troll, who happens to be Buoy’s Uncle.

The League of Women Voters of Seattle-King County is hosting a 1st District Primary Candidate Forum on July 29, 2019 at the West Seattle Pubic Library. The evening will be moderated by Simone Alicea of KNKX Public Radio and include candidates Lisa Herbold, Brendan Kolding, and Phil Tavel. This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the forum begins at 6:00 p.m.

The topic of discussion will be the 2017 budget. The West Seattle Hi-Yu Board is proposing two (2) versions of the budget: a barebones budget and a re-organization budget. The re-building version focuses on taking a year away from parades and a court(s) to re-build the organization and create a lasting program. The barebones version maintains some semblance of the legacy program with limited participation in events and parades assuming we have a court(s) to participate. Both proposals call for a significant increase in revenue. The proposed budgets can be viewed on Hi-Yu’s Facebook page. The Hi-Yu Board would like to invite you to come and discuss these proposals. Although there has been some interest from the community to assist in our volunteer efforts, after the October 2016 meeting, interest and attendance at the general meetings has dropped significantly. While we very much appreciate those who have reached out and are willing to help us continue the organization, it is clear that in order for Hi-Yu to continue, we need to have more involvement from the community, both in terms of volunteer hours and financial support. Hi-Yu is an all-volunteer organization, so while financial support is greatly appreciated and needed, it's the people that make it run. The Board is working under the question “What will be missed if Hi Yu is gone?” For many, it’s the nostalgia of the wonderful courts that were for years, the mainstay of Hi-Yu. For some, it’s the scholarship opportunity. For others, it’s the opportunity to represent West Seattle in wonderful summer festivals around the region. If you have your own personal answer to the question, what will be missed, and you don’t want to see Hi-Yu go away, please join us in working toward re-building Hi-Yu.

SR3 presentation on marine-wildlife rehab & research

Join SR3 - Sealife Response, Rehabilitation, Research, at the West Seattle Library! Executive Director, Dr. Lesanna Lahner, will be providing an update on the state of our local marine wildlife, as well as SR3’s new efforts to build the first marine wildlife hospital in the greater Seattle area. Many of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic species are struggling to survive. Dr. Lahner will discuss our Southern Resident Killer Whales, who are facing extinction due to record low Chinook salmon runs, as well as Sea Star wasting disease - which is considered the largest wildlife die off ever documented. We hope to see you at our next community event! The brief presentation will be followed by informal open discussion. SR3 is committed to opening the first marine wildlife rehabilitation facility in the Pacific Northwest.

Come to the West Seattle (Admiral) Library! Anansi the spider plays tricks on everyone and gets into a lot of trouble. Oregon Shadow Theatre brings this West African trickster to life with live music and colorful shadow puppets. For grades K and up. This year's Summer of Learning program "Astounding Tales of Nature!" encourages reading and activities around science, technology, engineering, arts and math. The Library is offering hundreds of free programs all summer long for families, children and teens through Sunday, Sept. 4. Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Space is limited at library events. Please come early to make sure you get a seat. Due to the fire code, we can’t exceed the maximum capacity for our rooms.

She will discuss why eating to reduce inflammation is key to being healthier, feeling better and getting a new lease on life, regardless of which particular health problem you are struggling with. Come to the West Seattle Library at 6:30 pm on July 31st to participate in the community meeting for Lafayette Elementary's Playground Improvement Project. More from the organizers: This meeting will start with an overview of the project scope and goals. There will then be a presentation about green schoolyards and how the transformation of an existing asphalt dominated playground into an ecological schoolyard can affect the learning experience. The meeting will finish with a community comment session. The community will have the opportunity to suggest program elements to be included in the project plan. More meetings in the next steps of the plan will follow on August 23rd and September 6th.
