SUMMARY:Celebrating Seal Sitters' founders
DESCRIPTION:In early August of 2007\, an extraordinary and quite unexpected harbor seal baby boom hit Alki Beach and the shores of West Seattle. In the ensuing scramble to protect these vulnerable pups\, writer Brenda Peterson and photographer Robin Lindsey came together as strangers\, forging an enduring alliance and a grass-roots group of concerned West Seattle residents that would become the full-fledged and high-profile Marine Mammal Stranding Network\, Seal Sitters. \nSeal Sitters invites you to a special celebration with our founders. Hear Robin and Brenda share their many stories in a lively setting – with an opportunity to ask any and all questions about their experiences and Seal Sitters’ history. \nRobin will be stepping back from her full-time Seal Sitters role. After 13 years with Seal Sitters\, she would love the opportunity to show her appreciation to colleagues\, volunteers and members of the public who have shared not only their common passion to protect wildlife\, but treasured friendship as well. \nSEAL SITTERS FOUNDERS EVENT\nSunday\, November 3\, 2:00-5:00 pm\nThe Hall at Fauntleroy\n9131 California Ave SW\, Seattle WA \nPROGRAM\n2:00 PM Doors open for a reception with refreshments and no-host bar\n3:00 PM “A Conversation with Robin and Brenda”\nLearn about the history of Seal Sitters in a moderated\, animated chat.\nAudience Q&A to follow.\nThe celebration continues until 5:00 PM. \nTHE EVENT IS FREE\, BUT YOU MUST RSVP BY NOVEMBER 1 TO ATTEND.\nSpace is limited and registration may close earlier if capacity is reached.\nRSVP here and include your name and the name of any guest attending with you. SUMMARY:Sexual assault legislation information
DESCRIPTION:From 34th District Democrats: The August monthly meeting will include a very special program. Our very own Leah Griffin will provide a very important and inspiring program that we think you won’t want to miss! Leah is our KCDCC Committee Rep and a school librarian who works on sexual assault policy reform at the state and federal levels. In 2015\, she was appointed to the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) Task Force in the Washington legislature with the aim of solving the myriad of problems survivors encounter navigating the justice system in Washington State. She also helped write and lobby for the Survivors’ Access to Supportive Care Act with Senator Murray and Representative Jayapal to increase access to Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners in hospitals. Leah connects her work to her community by working with the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center\, Legal Voice\, RISE\, and Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest. \nLeah will speak about the state of sexual assault legislation and reform in Washington and her advocacy for women. She will address the issues survivors face\, what has been accomplished\, and what’s next. \nContent Warning: Please Be Advised That There Will Be Discussion Of Subject Matter Concerning Sexual Assault. \nOur potluck social begins at 6:30pm and the business meeting will follow at 7pm. Leah’s presentation and Q&A will follow. Please come out and learn what’s going on in this critical space. \nShare This

SUMMARY:Fauntleroy Culverts Replacement open house
DESCRIPTION:From the project page: \nThere are three culverts along Fauntleroy Creek. The culverts located at 45th Avenue SW near SW Wildwood Place and California Avenue SW near SW Brace Point Drive are in extremely poor structural condition. Due to the culverts’ age\, condition\, and permitting restrictions related to fish passage requirements\, the culverts need to be fully replaced. \nThe third culvert\, which is located under Fauntleroy Way and includes a fish ladder\, was replaced in the late 1990’s and is not part of this project. \nWhat’s happening now?\nSPU is in Options Analysis for the Fauntleroy Creek Culverts Replacement Project to identify and evaluate options for replacing the 45th Avenue SW and California Avenue SW culverts. \nOptions Analysis will last approximately a year and a half and will end with the selection of the recommended alternatives for replacing the culverts. Once this phase ends\, the SPU project team will begin a formal Design Phase for the preferred replacement options. \nDuring Options Analysis\, SPU is also investigating creek\, drainage\, sediment\, utility\, or other infrastructure issues within the Fauntleroy Creek drainage basin that may be addressed through this or other projects. \nJoin us at our open house \nWednesday\, March 20 \n5 to 7 p.m. Please stop by anytime! \nThe Hall at Fauntleroy \n9131 California Ave SW \nShare This

SUMMARY:Lowman Beach seawall open house
DESCRIPTION:We Need to Hear from You! \nSeattle Parks and Recreation invites the community to learn about the future of the Lowman Beach Park seawall. Please join us at the upcoming Open House. Lowman Beach Park is located at 7017 Beach Dr. SW\, just north of Lincoln Park. \nThe Lowman Beach Park seawall is failing and needs to be removed or replaced. As visitors to the park have seen\, the existing seawall is slowly falling over towards the water. It is Seattle Parks and Recreation’s goal to remove the remaining seawall and continue the shoreline restoration work that began when the south half of the seawall failed in the mid-1990s. \nWe hired Environmental Science Associates (ESA) as a design consultant to undertake a feasibility study to look at options for removing the seawall\, taking into consideration both the habitat benefits of the seawall removal and the coastal engineering ramifications of that seawall removal. Given the design constraints of the project\, it is likely that the existing tennis court will remain in place. At this meeting we will present our background\, analysis of the coastal processes (wind\, waves\, tides\, sediment transport/littoral drift) and design options to gather community input. \nWed\, May 31\, 2017\nLocation: Hall at Fauntleroy\n9131 California Ave SW\n6:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m. \nFor questions about the project or if you need an interpreter or accommodations please contact:\nDavid Graves\, Strategic Advisor\nSeattle Parks and Recreation\n800 Maynard Ave S\, Seattle 98134\nDavid.graves@seattle.gov or (206) 615-1492 \nShare This
