Madison Middle School Dogs

I recently moved to West Seattle near Madison Middle School. I know there is some contention regarding dog owners using the field after school and on weekends. The “no dogs” sign is frequently vandalized and it was recently removed.

It is hard to tell how nearby residents, students, and parents feel about this because the dog owners seem to be the loudest on the issue. It seems like off leash dog culture is popular in this area and I would like to understand more of the history of it.

My understanding is that people with concerns are expecting the usage to stop when the construction completes or when it is converted to turf.

How big of a problem is this for people? I know the school staff is frustrated by it. Did other parents stop taking their kids here after hours?

Off leash culture has blossomed because dog owners know it’s their right to have a dog. They know it’s their right to let their dog run off leash anywhere/anytime they feel like. They know anyone speaking up about their rights is wrong to question them and as Roy say’s is a “sketchy stalker”

aa. I’ve got eyes and ears and have watched and listened to dog owners in action. I can and will say that I’ve NEVER seen or heard a dog owner call out another dog owner for their bad actions. But, hope springs eternal that responsible pet owners will call out the irresponsible ones. I’m not holding my breath.
