WestSeattleCougParticipantWe gave serious consideration to enrolling our child in Hope Lutheran last year for the 5th Grade but went in another direction. We’re back exploring HL for the middle school program and was wondering if anyone has/had any recent experience there? The class sizes seem attractive (18/class) and we’re planning on attending the open house later on this month. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

WSMomParticipantWestSeattleCoug, I’ve sent you a PM.
My family loves Hope Lutheran. The teachers and staff are incredible, I can’t say enough good things about the Hope community. I’m a believer in keeping 6th, 7th & 8th graders grounded in childhood by surrounding them with younger kids who look up to them and find them fascinating. This school has worked out very well for my family.

AdamOnAlkiParticipantYeah! Hope is AWESOME!
I went to Madison and it was a terrible mistake. I mean, look at me!
But seriously, I hated it at Madison. I have known many people who loved it, but as I sit here today as a 24 year old who knows people who are having kids, once the time comes, I will strongly encourage them (current conditions according) to check out Hope.

ZenguyParticipantMadison was no better when I went there twenty years prior. Very clickish, no room for diversity at all, high school was much better and that was at Rainier Beach!

YinWestwoodMemberMy friend’s son transferred into the 7th grade class and she’s been amazed how his grades improved and how well he’s settled into the environment. So in a nutshell she’s been very happy.

bsmommaParticipantI went to Hope Lutheran many many years ago. I LOVE the staff….. and they stick around! My 1st grade teacher is still the 1st grade teacher(I graduated H.S. in 1995)! I keep in contact with my second grade teacher and one of my former classmates is now a teacher there and another is part of the staff. I made lifelong friends and got an AMAZING education. I transferred to madison for the 8th grade. Things went down hill for me for a while. I am not kidding you…. I was STILL being taught the same stuff in High School as I was being taught in the 5th grade. I am probably going to have my daughter start there as soon as she’s old enough.

andreaParticipantLike all of the above posts WestSeattleCoug (I’m a ’98 Coug grad too, btw!), I have nothing but positive feedback to give you regarding Hope Lutheran. I went to Hope for 1-8th grades, and it was the best childhood experience for me. My lifelong best friends are all from going there. We are a somewhat small but also much interconnected community to be sure! Like bsmomma noted, many of the teachers I had in the late 70’s and 80’s are still there, and many of the other current teachers are former students. Hope does well at fostering strong childhood development in many areasā¦not just a solid knowledge base, but also in community, religion, the world, volunteerism…the ability to have real one on one time with teachers was invaluableā¦and I still to this day remember dressing up and learning about Rosh Hashanah and other holy days in the 6th grade…and going to the Lutheran Compass Center in Pioneer Square and serving food and handing out toiletry items in the 8th grade. Hope really helped to mold me into the person I am today, and I hope to have my future children experience the same fulfillment through an education at Hope.
