Bad break, followed by a Good Samaritan

If you’ve been through The Junction today, you may have noticed the broken front window at Northwest Art & Frame. Manager Debbie just told a WSB team member that they don’t know when or how it happened — obviously sometime Halloween night — but they do know this: Somebody out walking their dog very early this morning noticed the broken window. Nobody of course was at NW A & F at that hour, but the dog-walker found somebody to tell, next door at Bakery Nouveau. They in turn called the Seattle Fire Department, which sent a crew, who cleaned up the broken glass, and put up some temporary covering (Debbie says Bakery Nouveau gave them treats in appreciation). Whoever the dog-walker was, NW A & F is very appreciative.

That’s pretty cool that everyone helped out. I’m not too surprised that one business would look out for another, but I’m surprised the fire dept. helped in the way it did. Kudos to them!

JJ….I’m sure the fire crew appreciated the goodies from BN, too. Helping each other like this is what restores my faith in people….it’s what we should all be about. I hope that NWAF didn’t have any losses because of this.

In my experience, the fire crews of West Seattle frequently go above and beyond the call of duty. On the one occasion I had the unfortunate necessity to call them, they were incredibly kind and helpful & did far more than, as first responders from 911 (one of my children injured herself) they needed to. They helped me get my daughter’s car seat out of my car to put in the ambulance and even more importantly, they were kind and attentive to my son, comforting him. My daughter’s injury happened due to an innocent accident on his part & they helped to comfort him & take his mind off his anxiety about injured sis and freaked out mom.

All of which has nothing to do with how glad I am that people looked after NW A&F and everything to do with my gratitude and appreciation for our firefighters.

I hope this isn’t becoming an epidemic – last week someone broke the glass on the Super Supplements office.

The glass has been recently etched at Azuma too. They haven’t replaced it yet, last I saw. Not cool.

Speakin of which, I wish Super Supplements would hurry up and replace that glass. Like grafitti, all vandalism should be cleaned up ASAP – don’t want to give other’s ideas and let them have bragging right about it.

I called the police this morning immediately after discovering the broken glass and let the bakery know right after the call. :)

The police arrived in about 10 minutes.

I’ve been walking the dog early in the mornings for the last year. Maybe this is a prime time for these activities. In the last year, I’ve interrupted someone stealing from drop box by the Eagles and I caught someone in a neighbor’s car off of 39th Ave SW. Is this all new or on the rise?

Oh, the dog’s name is “Cheyenne”. A nice choco-lab girl.

I have lived in WS for 4 years now and in the last 2 months opened an office on CA. I have cleanned up 5 times now shoe polish graffity on my windows. It bothers me but what is one to do but clean it up asap which I do. But yesterday I had an elderly man come into the office and tell me that he has lived here all his life and feels that WS is going in the dump. “Garbage in the ally’s and graffity on the glass and walls really makes me mad and sad” he told me that “something has to be done!” I told him that I don’t know what else to do but if I see it to clean it up asap. I love WS and don’t want to see it be taken over by this. Can anything else be done?

Well, B@TT, I really doubt it’s adults leaving graffiti. I would just ask, here (seems the best place for adults to get the message), to police, or yet, parent your teens.

I live on a fairly pedestrian street and hear teen voices pretty much every night at all hours.

Weekdays, weeknights.

Our street’s been hit with graffiti a lot lately. And I’m getting really sick of it. again. I really doubt it’s adults; same could be said of someone breaking the glass on art and frame shop in the middle of the night.

It’s 11pm. Do you know where your teenager is?

Dolly, I fear you are preaching to the choir. I got this feeling that the parents of the teens susupected in doing this sort of vandalism are not regularly reading the WSB. One way to help is to continue to support fine WS organizations such as SW Youth and Family Services and Safe Futures.
