UPDATE: Orcas in view off West Seattle

3:12 PM: Thanks to Kersti Muul of Salish Wildlife Watch for the tip: Orcas are in view from West Seattle right now! They’re visible from Constellation Park, east of mid-channel, Kersti says, southbound, passing Blake Island. Let us know if you see them.

3:29 PM: Update from Kersti – they’re “just hanging” off Emma Schmitz Memorial Overlook (across from Me-Kwa-Mooks – she says they’re transients so they may well be hunting (transients eat other marine mammals, unlike resident orcas, who focus on fish).

    The are off Lincoln Park now, near the pool. Visible to naked eye.

    I’m guessing the news helicopter circling is because of the orcas?

    Can two or more people on WSBlog use the same initials? I’ve used KD on WSBlog for maybe about 10 years (?) at least. I would hope that people don’t mix up comments or impressions 😬

    So great to see T124A3A traveling with his aunt T124A4 Sabio after recently losing his mother T124A3 Wasani.  Not pictured here but also present were his grandmother T124A Kittiwake and uncle T124A6 Kasuun.

    Kersti, your picture with the bird, wings raised, looks to be saying to the Orcas “I can look majestic too” or maybe just a simple “hello”!

      Trying to steal the show 😆*That’s a double crested cormorant, a sea bird without the type of oil protection that other water birds have so the way they dry out is to hold the wings out like this*
