UNEMPLOYMENT: Self-employed and independent contractors can apply starting tonight

4:23 PM: As Gov. Inslee noted back on Thursday, the state is about to open unemployment insurance to people who are self-employed or independent contractors. The governor’s office sent a reminder this afternoon that you can apply starting at 8 pm tonight. This page explains how that works.

12:23 AM: Aside from other problems reported by commenters, the explanatory link sent by the governor’s office no longer works – now that info is here.

I hope there will be universal income(1500$per mth) plus health care for those 50 and above. I have a strong feeling age discrimination will be against those group. Nobody is going to hire them because of their age medical status.

How about UBI for everyone? Universal doesn’t mean ā€œBoomers and older GenX cohorts only.ā€

Universal income and health care? For how long? There isn’t money for that too.

  • Joan April 18, 2020 (8:15 pm)

It’s 8:03 and it looks like the site has already crashed.

Any other self employed’s logged on to their SAW account to apply for the much awaited expanded benefits? Thee “updated” site is moving at an absolute crawl, can barely get anywhere, seems to be completely glitching out and it’s taking so long to load it’s  Pages that the “session expired” and requires you to login again.

Omg, hilarious! Why even provide this email address? I inquired about when the site will be working and got this automated response: Thank you for reaching out to the Employment Security Department of Washington. We do not have an email support team but we do offer a Phone Support line to answer your questions about eServices. Please call the Phone Support line at 1-855-682-0785  Monday – Friday between 8am and 4pm and we will look forward to assisting you. ā€“The Employment Security e-Services Support Center

You have to setup a phone appointment. The next available is June 1st.

The site has already crashed. This is unbelievable.

That’s unfortunate. In the Thursday media briefing, they discussed some kind of upgrade that was supposed to happen before tonight’s launch…

Yes, the site has crashed.   I was able to get in and was a quarter ways thru when I tried to save.   It took so long to save that it timed out and getting back in was impossible.   I am not surprised.   My expectations were pretty low.

  • CW April 18, 2020 (8:45 pm)

I’ve found it sloooow but functional so far – better than I was anticipating, honestly.

  • ColesMom April 18, 2020 (10:40 pm)

I’ve been trying for an hour now, as others have stated the site keeps crashing.  You have to keep logging in, or your session expires after 5 minutes, or you get pretty far into it and you try to advance to the next page and it either freezes or kicks you out.  I tried saving my info and it kicked me out, Ugh!  Not at all surprised really .. I too have low expectations.

Um, the page that explains “how it works?” Um, no… “Workers & Businesses: Learn more about important changes and subscribe to updates about our response to COVID-19.

    Not found

The page you are looking for does not exist.”

I’ve been unemployed since a while  before COVID-19, so am trying to file my weekly claim.  I usually try around midnight on Sunday because I had trouble getting in one week and thought the site would be less busy.  Not this time.  It was slow, put me back to the start page.  Then I tried a gain a little later and got to where I started entering my job searches, and I got an error message.  Then it crashed.

I tried again about 2:15 or so and got in.

    • AMD April 19, 2020 (7:23 am)

Filed my weekly claim this morning, about 7am.  Site was slow, but got through all pages without it crashing or timing out.  It is getting better, and probably will continue to do so as filers spread out.

Sounds like even after their upgrade to better handle/load balance traffic, we still overwhelmed their site. I bet certain websites like this are experiencing an unprecedented amount of simultaneous traffic. I’m going to wait and try again in a few days. Would be interesting to hear just how many visitors their site had last night…

Hopefully it goes more smoothly in upcoming days. So grateful this relief income is being offered.

  • HS April 19, 2020 (10:54 am)

Glad to read that a few others were able to file. There must be a ton of us filing – so far the site keeps crashing for me Sun late morning. Trying again later. Also thankful for the relief income at this time.

  • flimflam April 19, 2020 (11:58 am)

i was finally able to access the site and file my regular (well, since this all began) weekly claim – it took many tries but did get it done eventually.

  • Jyotsna April 19, 2020 (12:27 pm)

I’ve been trying to login for last 3 hours and no success. I was unemployed in Feb of this year and didn’t have any issues filing but Not today!! Like so many I’m able to progress to the next page after keeping my fingers crossed and it freezes and reload error message appears. šŸ˜”

    • Jyotsna April 19, 2020 (1:21 pm)

Right now at 1:20 pm I was able to submit my claim. Try now. Good Luck!!

  • Jen J Miller April 19, 2020 (12:59 pm)

I woke up at 430am, not on purpose, and tried to login. I had zero issues! Everyone is trying to log in at the same time. Yes it sucks. Yes we all need money. Yes it shouldn’t be like this. But it is, and hopefully soon it’ll be able to work for everyone.

  • JB April 19, 2020 (10:49 pm)

Took me 3 hrs of site crashes, slow page loading and constant timing out but finally was able to submit a claim as self employed. Was so frustrated I recruited my husband to take turns with me to try to get through the whole thing. Horrible process but wanted to let people know it is possible to eventually get the whole thing filled out.

  • Val Galleta April 24, 2020 (12:48 pm)

Been trying to apply for unemployment insurance. I can log in to my SAW account but the problem is I am always receiving a message, ” YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER OR DATE OF BIRTH DO NOT MATCH OUR RECORDS.” Any help?

Sorry, comment time is over.
