In the next few weeks, if one is lucky,  you might see aerial mating displays with the eagles around the city.   They are often observable around  the ferry side of Lincoln Park’s promenade. Really spectacular to witness eagle courtship displays which span across the sky –  talons locking,  spiral flight patterns and vocalizations, etc.   There is another pair (I think it is different than the pair in the photograph) which hunts off Jack Block Park and has a nest in the greenbelt on Harbor Ave by Salty’s.  They tend to use the light pole in the park  by the stairs to the viewing pier as a perch year round, so look up and you might see them eating their catch of sole or salmon up there.  Hope people are able to capture some of these mating rituals on video for their amazing displays.  It is one of the greatest gifts of observing nature here in West Seattle.  But remember to be respectful of distance  from these glorious protected animals whose shoreline we share as they nest and lay their eggs.

The RV Safe Lot committee has a list of good questions to consider.  One question that I have not seen anybody ask yet involves environmental concerns for the nearby wetlands.  Is there any concern or plans for old broken down RVs that are most likely leaking oil and fluids?  The heavy concentration of RVs in one spot so close to the wetlands could leak fluids and rain runoff carry them into the environment.

Love the photo, plus the info from WestSeattleDood. I’ll keep an eagle eye  out for the avian courtship.  And interesting point, Birdwatcher.

Sorry, comment time is over.
