Loved Mobile Chowdown? Tomorrow, 2 trucks in Highland Park

Last reminder … a restaurant-less section of eastern West Seattle will get some street-food love tomorrow: The Highland Park Improvement Club, shown in our photo (along with its sizable parking lot), will start playing host to food trucks on Saturdays, beginning tomorrow. It’s at 12th/Holden, just a few blocks east of where Zippy’s used to be. Lumpia World and Curry Now are scheduled for tomorrow, starting at 11 am and going till at least 3 pm, and HPIC is hoping to attract more as the Saturdays go by (Marination Mobile also continues its longtime weekly Saturday visit to 35th/Graham). Later on, you’re also invited to the Harvest Dinner at 6 pm tomorrow at HPIC – a potluck event (more details here).

I AM SORRY I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH YOU WEST SEATTLE BLOG THIS AREA IS NOT A PART OF WEST SEATTLE. ANYONE OUT THERE AGREE? OR DISAGREE?

That will be a treat for all the soccer families that will be at Riverview park for games 1 block north of hpic!!! Yum

DF – stop shouting. Agreed that HP is not part of WS, but I am glad to hear that I can get some Lumpia again without going all the way to their other locations. And also to try the curry truck.
    .
    Thanks for the info.

Sorry, folks, Highland Park ***is*** part of West Seattle, which continues to the Duwamish in that area. Not something we made up. If there’s SW in the street name and it’s north of the city limits, it’s West Seattle. There’s even a small stretch with S. instead of SW that’s part of West Seattle (continuing to the Joint Training Facility on Myers). – TR

Thank you Traci! HP has been ignored for far too long.

  • A October 7, 2011 (8:46 pm)

I also don’t consider it WS.

  • Cclarue October 7, 2011 (9:00 pm)

HP is West Seattle. But for those of you that think it isn’t what do you think it IS???

  • bridge to somewhere October 7, 2011 (9:21 pm)

    Disagree with you DF

  • SpeakLoud October 8, 2011 (12:25 am)

Highland Park is a neighborhood of West Seattle-like Arbor Heights, Pigeon Point, Fauntlee Hills etc etc..

mmm curry-can’t wait-I didn’t try either of these at Chowfest and I really wanted to!

  • Tinka October 8, 2011 (12:50 am)

I am looking forward to the “street food love” for Highland Park tomorrow. And for those of you who don’t consider Highland Park part of West Seattle – I suggest that you don’t use Highland Park neighborhoods to commute off of West Seattle while the bridge is closed at the end of October. Good luck!

  • HP gal October 8, 2011 (9:05 am)

Not part of West Seattle? Hmmmm. So, what are your boundaries for West Seattle, then? And why wouldn’t you consider Highland Park part of West Seattle? Because people of color live here? Our homes are actually affordable? Just wondering.

I guess I have always thought of WS from North Admiral to say Roxbury or so and east to Delridge. Still do.

  • Casey October 8, 2011 (10:11 am)

Isn’t highland parks high school WEST SEATTLE?! I guess I could be wrong..?

  • DF October 8, 2011 (11:00 am)

Interesting read on this topic is from the first 2 dozen or so pages from the autobiographical book of a West Seattle High School Alumni internationally recognized author and poet from of all places White Center. “The Real West Marginal Way” I almost take his interpretation of West Seattle. I live right in the heart of it. Have always more or less. Its a good read.

  • sam-c October 8, 2011 (11:24 am)

lol- not part of west seattle- of course it is

  • AJP October 8, 2011 (11:44 am)

    People are so weird.

  • Gina October 8, 2011 (12:22 pm)

If there is a SW in the directional, and are within the city limits of Seattle, and can vote for Seattle Mayor and Seattle city council and Seattle Public School board, the property is part of of greater West Seattle. That is my rule of thumb.

  • Cclarue October 8, 2011 (4:23 pm)

    The lumpia was good!!;)

  • stb October 8, 2011 (4:48 pm)

Mmm the curry “tacos” were good too.

Highland Park not in West Seattle? Since when? I’ve been here for twelve freakin’ years, and the only people who seem to believe this don’t live here. (DF: so Pigeon Point, Puget Ridge, and Riverview aren’t part of West Seattle either, by your reckoning. You should tell the residents; I bet they’d be surprised.)

Here I was hoping for some comments on how the food truck event went. I was downtown all day yesterday and missed it, but love the idea of regular food trucks just a few blocks from my house. I hope they become a regular feature.

    • WSB October 9, 2011 (6:15 pm)

DM, we had a followup story with pix of the trucks and at least a few comments, posted yesterday. I actually am about to add HPIC’s official comment on how it went, too – TR

Well my family has been in the region, SW Seattle, now well over 100 years. But you know what big deal. I have always considered West Seattle as I stated earlier and well if I seemed to criticize I now recognize that. I do believe it is in the interest of this great source of info. the WSB to create for its audience the idea that West Seattle is larger than it actually is. That is just my opinion.

  • datamuse October 10, 2011 (10:11 am)

Hey, you asked if people agree or disagree. Naturally, some people disagree. ;)
    .
We east of Delridge do maybe get a wee bit defensive because most of the people who assert that this ISN’T part of West Seattle seem to think that it’s called No-Man’s Land.

  • DF October 10, 2011 (5:46 pm)

Read the book I recommended above by Hugo. He had similar thoughts in his native White Center. The first two dozen pages cover pigeon point, riverside, garlic gulch and hovering above all West Seattle. I need to reread it myself.

Sorry, comment time is over.
