Open house set for West Seattle’s renovated motel The Grove

After months of extensive renovation work, West Seattle’s only motel – now known as The Grove, West Seattle Inn – is about to unveil its new look. Its owners have just announced an open house for 4 pm Monday, June 27th. They’re already taking reservations, too, for dates in July and beyond. We’ve been chronicling the transformation since the new ownership was announced in December; the motel has been closed since early April.

I work a AAA in West Seattle and we have members coming in from all over the US and are always asking for a hotel in the area. I have always said there is nothing that I would recommend other then a couple of B and B’s.
I’m really looking forward to seeing this hotel. I grew up here in W.S. and even actually checked in AND out in less then 10 minutes….10 years ago. See you on Monday the 27th and good luck to the new owners. We really needed something in the area.

Finally a place I can use in my own neighborhood.

The renovated rooms sound nice. I hope they eventually put their rates on their website. Would like to know a price range when recommending to friends and family coming to town.

Finally! I DO hope it doesn’t become a $50 a week flop house like it used to be. If we need a homeless shelter, lets build one. But we need an actual MOTEL for out of town guests too!

This is great news! West Seattle needs a quality motel. As a local funeral director there have been times when I’ve need a place to recommend to families coming to town for their loved ones’s services. The only option was downtown Seattle. Congratulations and best of luck to the new owners, looking forward to attending your open house.

Well that’s a pleasure. I stayed ‘there’ once in 1991, it was scary-awful–and I’m not all that fussy :)

can someone explain to me this naming protocol? why not just “the grove?” or “the west seattle grove?” what’s with the COMMA?
    just wondering.

I, too, am looking forward to an upscale neighbor in the Triangle. I hope it is a success, and a nice place to stay!

emjee… I also stayed there recently in the last two years and I concur with you.

    thelmasue –
My guess is the sign/logo will be two lines and the comma in this case is supposed to indicate the break between lines.

If you click through to their website you can see the name used in different ways. If it is really such a point of curiosity, I can ask the owners. But if I were just speculating … the second half of the name has SEO written all over it. Notice the browser title on their site. Bodes well for them that they “get it” on that front as they attempt to build a brand! – TR

Gee now we have a nice place to go when the wife throws you out for the night.

ok, I’ll play the kid in class who’s bold (or dumb) enough to raise my hand and say, huh? what does this mean, I’m totally lost; 1st, what does SEO mean? what is a browser title?

    • WSB June 16, 2011 (1:05 pm)

search-engine optimization. key terms in your headlines/business name/web presence so that Google/Bing are more likely to pick you up high in the results when people search. Browser title is what you see at the very top of your web browser – the title of the site – for most browsers, that is above the place where your currently viewed web address displays. Many people don’t understand the role this plays in search – some people set up websites and just leave a default for their browser title like HOME. Eek. And some people go overboard and not only put their name and purpose in the browser title, but also some search terms, which is kind of a naked display of what you’re trying for. Hope that makes sense – TR

This renovation has been well thought out and executed so far. The overall direction & detail orientation comes from plenty of industry experience and travel history! They have the travelers best interests in mind and really used the available space well.
As with any change, there will be some items that need continued attention – but overall – except for the exterior shape – you should not be able to compare any of the new features / amenities to the past issues. The owners only want to look forward and continue to make improvements to customer comfort & service.

I was there five years ago, June 17, the rate was one hundred thirty dollars a night for a dive room.

The Grove…? I think the name is hippy-ish sounding..and the gray and red theme is about as appetizing as our weather. But good luck anyway. It has to be a small step up from the former.

I just tried calling The Grove for reservations (their website said to) and both their local and 800 numbers are disconnected. Does anyone know anything about it’s current status?

    • WSB June 22, 2011 (1:44 pm)

Kari, I’ll check. I toured the other day and am hoping to publish that story this afternoon so it would be helpful to know if they are having phone trouble! – TR
