Happening now: Car wash for a cause on Alki

About this time of year, we start getting notes asking if anyone is having a fundraising car wash on a particular day – so they can do a good deed while getting their vehicle good and clean. When one such question came in yesterday, we were able to reply, “In fact, the Chief Sealth Honor Choir will be washing cars Sunday at Alki Auto Repair to raise money for their upcoming trip to Carnegie Hall.” And there we found the fundraising car-scrubbers this morning – with choir members Tiffany and Hayley pausing for a photo. Just look for the sign at 57th and Alki (that’s the Shoremont in the background).

They’re planning to be there till 4 pm, suggested donation $10. And a WSB’er checked – yes, the water goes into a separate treatment system and doesn’t drain into Puget Sound.

(P.S. If you have a car wash or other fundraiser planned, we’d be happy to put it on the WSB Events calendar as soon as you schedule it – just send the info to editor@wsb.blackfin.biz.)

(P.P.S. A comment reminds us, we need to add that if you missed this today, they’ll do it again same place, same time, in three weeks, March 27th, as mentioned in our preview.)

Hey, good job, guys and gals! My wife and I brought both of our cars over today and you did a great job. Thank you, and good luck in NYC!

I heard they were going to have a 2nd car wash on another day. Is that right?

Thanks, I need to add that to the story – it was in our preview and is on our calendar – March 27th, same hours.

Oh, how I wish I had known about this before 1am after the event. I’d have loved to have given the choir some funds in exchange for a wash. Instead I hand washed my own car today and in the process witnessed a punk kid unceremoniously drop a bike in the middle of a one lane bridge and just walk away. If I had taken my car down to Alki, I could have gotten out of the less than fun encounter with him when I called him out on leaving the bike in the middle of the bridge.

This is a great way to ‘kill 2 birds with 1 stone’; however my suggestion would be to not present a ‘suggested donation’ amount because people usually give more than you might think and you may be selling them short by suggesting a dollar figure – just a suggestion. Good luck on the 27th!

I know this comment is off subject, but the mediteranean style house behind the old shoremont apartments has always looked so completely out of place there…the two structures together just don’t go!!!!! It’s always bothered me and I just had to let it out…AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHRRRRRRUUU !

Sorry, comment time is over.
