West Seattle coyotes: North Admiral-area sighting

Out of the WSB inbox, from Marian:

A pair of fluffy, well fed individuals were sniffing around our neighbors’ drive at the 1900 dead-end block of Walnut [map] this morning about 9:00. They didn’t seem to mind us gaping at them a bit!

We publish coyote sightings not as a warning, but as a reminder that they are more or less everywhere, even if you are somehow sure they can’t be in YOUR neighborhood. Here’s important advice about coexisting with them, and here’s our archive of previous reports you can scroll through (some with photos).

Click map, click earth, zoom in. You will see the extensive greenbelt next to the balloon depicting the coyote sighting. It makes sense.

We also get sightings from folks who are nowhere at all near greenbelts – like northwest or northeast of The Junction in the heart of the most paved-over part of WS … so it’s important for them to realize they’re everywhere, too. – TR

Agreed they cover a lot of territory and sightings have been varied. I usually click to see where the closest greenbelt is and this one was too obvious.

Your point is well taken that we need to be coyote aware. You have been great at educating everyone about them and I didn’t mean to detract from that.

Someday I fully expect someone to send a photo of a coyote just standing in line at Easy Street in The Junction with everybody else on a weekend morning…

Yeah, we saw them a bit later at Starbucks. I’m pretty sure they took the greenbelt.

I think they go to Bubbles on Harbor Ave.

Coyote barking in our backyard in the wee hours this morning – off Admiral Way above Harbor Ave. Very common to see them in our neighborhood in the greenbelt.
