Update: Man hit by car after fight at California/Edmunds

ORIGINAL 7:12 PM REPORT: Incident near Uptown Espresso in The Junction is causing traffic trouble. Details to come.

7:27 PM UPDATE: We’re told this all started with a fight/argument between two people – while police wouldn’t confirm much to us at the scene, witness Mark e-mailed this report:

Just before 7 pm, a scuffle with no real contact started in front of the Uptown Espresso at Edmunds and Erskine. From a distance it was just posturing and yelling. One of the guys in the fight stormed off. Then a small white car, looked like a Suzuki Samurai or Geo Tracker (white, convertible) pulled out in a hurry, a girl yelled at the people in the car and smacked it. The car then sped toward, and hit the guy that stormed off. Hard enough to knock him feet over head in the air. And they drove off. Shortly thereafter emergency folks showed up.

Police do confirm one person was taken to the hospital. The roads in the area are open again.

Uh oh. Coming back from the ferry, we drove past an incident (which you haven’t detailed yet, since I’m replying so early) and I told my husband to slow down, in case we needed to call the cops. But there were quite a few people around and, with cranky kids in the car, he suggested we just go. Two guys, in the Uptown parking lot, were pushing each other and yelling, and up in each others faces, while a few others (friends?) watched. I thought they were joking around at first, but as we passed by, I caught a closer look at one of the guys who was not at all a happy camper. No clue what it was about or how things continued… Hopefully no one was injured!

    I see nothing going on.

Hahahaha… The heat is making everyone craaaazy!

That’s exactly what my husband said as we drove by and saw the guys up in each other’s faces, their testosterone-a-flowin.

  • grr August 15, 2010 (9:47 pm)

yeah..but I hope someone got a license plate. Hit and Run / vehicular assault is serious.

testosterone or not, that’s hit and run, and not something to joke about. What is in someone’s mind when they do something like that?….I simply don’t understand it. Hope they catch the guy and deal with him correctly. Hope the guy who was hit is OK.

Not sure if your comment is directed at me, but I wasn’t making a joke regarding the hit & run. Obviously it’s very serious and I hope the person injured is OK. We weren’t there when that took place (drove by much earlier in the argument) and I don’t recall even seeing the vehicle described, above. Just a small group of people and two guys at the center of it all, posturing and looking quite unhappy.

    Yup, heat’s making people crazy…

Calm down and find some way to cool off, literally…

Very assuming, drug addicts at their finest. Victim however seemed to be “normal” and he was just trying to leave the situation, but those addicts just kept bothering him . . . Should have video taped it! YouTube perfection!

Yep, a bunch of caffeine-heads, unable to handle their heightened sense of awareness.

Any more on this? My sister in law and I were heading that direction right after it happened. Is the guy who was hit ok? It looked just awful and I still can’t get the image out of my head.

      We are checking.

Considering the highly agitated state I saw him (the eventual victim) in in front of the 7-11 prior to the dust up, I’m not ready to write him off as totally innocent in the fight that followed. And he definitely could’ve walked away sooner. He was doing just as much posturing as the others, even to the extent of feigning a punch.

Did they release the victim name? Is he alright? He didn’t look too well. Find the driver?

  • wolfbain August 18, 2010 (10:00 am)

comment by mark-100% correct. comment by hello, he didn,t look too well before the confrontation. the only victims were the people who had to watch these losers. if i sound uncaring it,s because these guys make victims out of pretty much everybody they come in contact with. lock em all up!

Does anyone know what happened to the guy that got hit? Did he survive???

  • LillyG August 30, 2010 (6:23 pm)

I called Uptown Espresso today to see if they knew what happened to the guy. The person I talked to said he survived! Yeay! He heard he had some broken bones, etc. but was OK. They caught the guy who hit him.
I was so happy to hear he is Ok, seeing him get hit was terrible, I wasn’t sure he’d make it.

Sorry, comment time is over.
