West Seattle food news: The Swinery will won’t open Monday

(Photo by Christopher Boffoli, added 11:29 pm; opening-night-eve activity at Swinery tonight)
ORIGINAL 11:31 PM NOTE: Posted moments ago on Facebook by Swinery proprietor Gabriel Claycamp (backstory here):

the swinery will open tomorrow in an extremely limited capacity. Our compressors blew on 2 of our cases, so we only have the baby case…. will still have lots of goodness, stop by after 12 pm.

The new deli/meat shop (3207 California SW; map) has its full website up at swinerymeats.com. 12:40 AM MONDAY: And just an hour later, a problem. We’ll just wait till they actually open before the next update.

Scratch that. We are NOT OPENING tomorrow. why doesn’t Home Depot stay open when you need them? Tuesday. Plumbing mishap. compressors breaking in the middle of the night… clearly the universe doesn’t like the autumnal equinox for us.

Bummer. Home Despot used to be open 24 hrs back in the day.

  • pigeonmom September 21, 2009 (3:10 am)

I can’t find The Swinery on Facebook. What am I doing wrong?

  • GenHillOne September 21, 2009 (7:54 am)

I can’t wait for them to open either, but jeesh, has there ever been an “announcement” from these guys that hasn’t been amended nearly as soon as it’s been put out there? Slow down and take the time to be sure, folks; it’s really unprofessional and not great for consumer confidence. That said, you have the best bacon around!

GenHillOne: I know, right? They’ve become the Boeing 787 Dreamliner of shops. If they can just get over the technical difficulties and get off the ground they’ll probably be something great.
    .
I’m not sure I’d go so far as to fault the Swinery folks for being unprofessional though. A few factors contributing to the delays seemed to be out of their control.

I totally get technical difficulties, but it goes further back than that. It’s things like (seemingly) premature announcements, especially the Seattle Fish Company deal that wasn’t really inked, that give me the feeling that they’re operating on more emotion than business sense. Again, that said, I think their passion for a great product is absolutely in place. And consistant service (hours, product availability, website accuracy) will surely win repeat customers, probably even from outside WS. I just want them to be around a good long while so we can enjoy it!

    Mmmmmmm….meat of all kinds

  • kittylove September 21, 2009 (3:02 pm)

    these guys are terrible neighbors.

  • pigeonmom September 21, 2009 (3:06 pm)

Do they stay up late, have loud parties, cars, dogs and have a garbage strewn lawn?

  • WSB September 21, 2009 (3:17 pm)

Before the last tangent goes any further, a note. If “kittylove” is talking about the business location, it’s relevant, but if (and I’m not sure where “pigeonmom” is coming from) it’s related to the personal residence of anyone involved in this business/project, it is not, and comes under our “leave people’s private lives out of it” rule. Thanks – TR

  • kittylove September 21, 2009 (3:24 pm)

they are very inconsiderate to the people living adjacent to the business location; destroying property and compromising the security of the residents.

  • Gina September 21, 2009 (3:35 pm)

I believe pigeonmom may be making a humorous comment. Referring to what most people think of when the words “terrible neighbors” are used.

  • WSB September 21, 2009 (3:57 pm)

Thanks, I guessed as much but the tenets of my profession are to not guess, and if I happen to see something veering into a troublesome direction I would rather pipe up than have to go back later and start pruning – TR

kittylove…details before you trash these people? What exactly have they done to YOU and YOUR property? (since you brought it up)

  • pigeonmom September 21, 2009 (5:22 pm)

Bingo, Gina. kittylove, how do impact your security?

  • pigeonmom September 21, 2009 (5:33 pm)

add a ‘they’ to above question..

  • JBL September 21, 2009 (6:20 pm)

Maybe bring the security issue up with someone who can do something about it, like…umm….the business owners instead of griping about it on a comment roll. It’s not like they have the time to read this. I know. I’ve been working with the kitchen crew for the past 2 weeks and everyone is very busy.

Sorry, comment time is over.
