One week till West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day!

9 am-3 pm next Saturday, May 9th, it’s the fifth annual West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day (second year WSB has coordinated it; it was created by a now-defunct nonprofit community group, Megawatt, which organized it the first three years). Mapmaking is in its final throes as we speak – some copies will be available at the WSB table near the main stage at tomorrow’s Sustainable West Seattle Festival, and then it’ll be available online for you to view/print no later than Monday morning) and it looks like the unofficial final count is 183 SALES! Soon as we get that map done, we’ll talk more about the highlights and specifics. Remember there are contests — with prizes! — again this year, for “most unusual item” and “most creative sign,” but you will have to send us your photo(s) afterward to enter (garagesale@wsb.blackfin.biz). Help get the word out: Print this poster and tack it up at work, school, telephone pole. We’ve distributed some but the more the merrier!

Has anyone considered contacting one of the local charities (CSB comes to mind but I’m sure dozens would jump at this) to schedule Saturday late pickups around the community for unsold items? If someone were willing to come around with a big truck, imagine the amount of loot they could haul off from those of us who don’t have a way to take it to one of the dropoff points!

Or, if there is a private citizen who has a truck and is willing to do the same, please contact me. We are leaving town the day after the sale and do NOT want to saddle out house-sitter with trying to deal with the leftovers.

We are partnered with Northwest Center for this though nobody is obligated to use them. They don’t do Saturday pickups; they did a few years ago, before we took this over, and it turned into a ginormous hassle. They do have late hours at the dropoff location in The Junction (see

and the tab “NW Center and Your Unsold Stuff”)- TR

Thanks TR. I’d seen that and am more than happy to give to them. We simply don’t have a truck to haul any leftovers up to the Junction, so I was hoping some enterprising person with a truck was willing to do some runs and maybe make some cash. I’d think someone could be fairly organized and map out a run, picking up loads from a bunch of the sales at $5-10 a pop and do pretty well for themselves.

Sorry, comment time is over.
